Hiking and Other Sneaky Ways to Get Those Steps In!

This Saturday, my family went on a hike up to the peak of Bernardo Mountain. We used to go on hikes a lot when my brothers and I were younger and life was a little simpler; a little less hectic. I remembered how much I loved the sense of accomplishment that comes with looking back at the path I have traveled, and how proud I am of my body for being able to take me to such amazing places. There’s nothing that compares to the feeling of having completed something and seeing all those steps rack up, so I urge you to get outside this weekend! Do some research, find something magnificent! Or take a walk around your neighborhood, you’ll find beautiful little things along the way.

There are a lot of things you miss out on if you don’t get outside and explore once and awhile. We’ve lived in San Diego for 12 years, and this was my first time doing this hike, which is right in my neighborhood. The round trip was around 7 miles. We rewarded ourselves with an extra large, extra cheesy pizza afterwards, because sometimes there’s nothing you need more than a pizza after a long hike.

So, sneaky little ways to get those steps in. Sometimes, I have a hard time reaching my 10,000 step goal. It’s a lot of steps, I’ll be honest about that. Here’s some of my secret ways of reaching that goal: 

1. Take the furthest spot in the parking lot. 

2. Step in place when you’re in a long line. 

3. Walk up and down each aisle in the grocery store. 

4. Take a ten-minute walk before work or school. 

I promise it will start to add up. These little things will make a big difference. I’m loving being able to keep track of my movement with my Fitbit flex! Also, my favorite bracelet of the week has definitely been the Marissa in Brushed Gold; I’ve paired it with everything from dresses to boyfriend jeans.
